IRVINE / SPRING REPAIR & REPLACEMENT

A broken spring.
A door out of action.

A bang, a visible gap in the spring, or a suddenly heavy door can point to a spring fault. Stop using the door and arrange professional assessment.

Keep clear. Do not keep testing it. Do not release, lift or operate a door with a suspected broken spring. Never adjust springs, cables or loaded brackets yourself.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE ASSESSED

The spring is part
of a loaded system.

Springs counterbalance the weight of the door. An opener is not a substitute for that balance. A failed spring can put extra strain on other components.

The assessment should identify the installed spring arrangement and consider the cables, drums, bearings and door condition. That does not mean every component needs replacement.

Understand the proposed scope

Loose cable or a motor that runs without lifting the door? See the cable assessment and opener repair guide for related symptoms.

THE REPAIR DECISION

Three different kinds
of work. Keep them separate.

01 / NECESSARY

Repair the assessed fault.

Ask which spring or spring assembly has failed and which specification is appropriate for the door. Confirm parts, quantity and labor in the proposal.

02 / CONDITION-DEPENDENT

Address related wear.

A damaged cable or worn bearing may need attention if inspection supports it. Ask to understand the condition and why the work is recommended.

03 / OPTIONAL

Consider an upgrade.

A different spring cycle rating or other improvement should be explained as a choice, with its additional cost and applicable terms, not disguised as the fault.

BEFORE YOU AUTHORIZE WORK

Know what
you are approving.

Price alone is not the whole quote. The scope and return-visit terms matter too.

Prepare a spring enquiry

Use the complete repair quote checklist to compare visit charges, parts, labor and return terms.

Why might a quote include two springs?

If a two-spring system is installed, paired replacement may be recommended because the springs have shared use. That is different from converting a one-spring system. Ask which arrangement your door has, why the quantity is proposed, and what the quoted scope includes.

Can the same spring be used on every door?

No. The replacement must suit the door and its spring system. The technician should determine the appropriate specification; homeowners should not measure or remove a loaded spring.

What is included in the repair price?

Ask about the assessment or visit fee, spring quantity and specification, labor, tax, disposal and any separate charges. Also ask what applies if you do not proceed. Confirm the complete proposed price before authorizing work.

What should the warranty cover?

Request the actual written terms: parts, labor, duration, exclusions and any charge for a return visit. A manufacturer component warranty and an installer labor warranty are not necessarily the same.

How do I know the job is finished?

Ask what was repaired and tested, whether any work remains, and whether the door is ready for normal use. A temporarily secured opening is not the same as a completed working repair.

Start with the symptom, not a diagnosis. A ZIP and a short description help direct a repair enquiry.
